Japan, its teas, its rituals, the precision of its gestures, the refinement of its arts, this is where my first tea-related emotions were born. So, when Dorothée Perkins invited me to share this passion in her delightful work Paris X Tokyo mon amour , it was with joy that I accepted.
And here is the genesis of Paris X Tokyo my love...
One Sunday, Dorothée Perkins meets a Japanese woman in a kimono on a subway platform. It's the beginning of a long list of questions. Is she just passing through, or does she live in Paris? What's in her fridge? Why are our two countries and our two cuisines so attracted to each other? Dorothée set out to meet Japanese people in France and French people passionate about Japan, to interview them about their experiences, ask them what they eat every day, and understand what connects us.
In this book, you'll discover a baker in Montmartre, Hiroko's bentos, a kimono-clad Madame Eiffel, Tomoji's bouquets, Mathilda's mochi, a sumo club a stone's throw from the Marais, and a Breton sushi master. Thirty Japanese and French people drawn to Japan share 60 family recipes, both mixed and accessible, and demonstrate how we embrace another culture without ever completely straying from the taste of our roots.
Passionate about Japanese culture and gastronomy since childhood, Dorothée Perkins spent a year in Tokyo in 2007. A graduate of the Penninghen School of Art Direction, she now works as a photographer for the press and publishing, and questions society by dissecting our relationship with food. Passionate about living things and specializing in permaculture, she co-wrote La Foi, la Fourche et la Fourchette (Hachette Cuisine, 2023).
