Guadeloupe curcuma

Didier Boismoreau

A former professional diver, Didier Boismoreau gradually turned to working the land before specialising in turmeric cultivation in Guadeloupe.

On his plots in Basse-Terre, Lamentin and Petit-Bourg, he cultivates his rhizomes on rich volcanic soil, on a gentle slope, dominated by the remains of an old sugar factory and surrounded by sugar cane.

His agronomic approach is inspired by permaculture and agroforestry: planting trees to create microclimates, capture nitrogen and promote biodiversity, limiting erosion, working the soil with a broadfork, and using only local resources and certified organic compost.

Each rhizome is harvested by hand, cleaned in the river, dried in the sun to reveal its bright orange colour, and then crosses the Atlantic by sailboat.

This artisanal approach, combined with an exceptional tropical terroir, produces turmeric of rare intensity, with sunny aromas and sweet, warm, spicy and fruity notes.
