Osmanthus

Osmanthus is a tree native from Southeast Asia which is now cultivated mainly in China. It is the same botanical family as olive tree and we call it commnly Chinese olive tree. Its flowers, whose color varies depending on the variety, release a sweet scent once autumn arrives, reminiscent of both apricot and tea. In perfumery, the absolute obtained after extraction of the petals is one of the rare natural materials to present a fruity note, combined with a leathery facet that makes it so unique.

It is also one of the flowers traditionally consumed in China as an infusion, alone or mixed with tea. The variety used is Osmanthus fragrans. This is what I am sharing with you. in this beautiful work in the form of an interview conducted by the journalist Éléonore de Bonneval.
