Dark tea, Laos

This loose sheng pu er, suitable for maturing for several years, was produced in the fall of 2022.

It comes from forest tea plants located between 1000 and 1400m above sea level in the Nyot Ou district of Phongsaly Province, bordering Xishuangbanna, an autonomous prefecture of China renowned for its pu ers. The tea plants have genetics close to those of Xishuangbanna.

They are harvested by producers from the Yao villages of Ban Sehopene and Ban Nammanoy . At the initiative of the French Laotian NGO CCL (Cooperation Committee with Laos), the Nyot Ou cooperative was created in 2022 to pool the production of tea from these villages and two other surrounding villages, with the profits going directly to the producers.

This pu er will express itself fully when tasted in a gong fu cha, blossoming over successive infusions. In the cup, it develops vegetal, woody, slightly acidic notes with a rounded feel.
